It took 22000 workers 17 years to complete the Mosuleum and by the end of it, the treasury was all but finished, leading to a rebellion within the family for power, where Aurangzeb, the youngest of his sons, killed all his brothers and ascended the throne only to imprison Shah Jahan in the Agra Fort, from where he would look at Taj Mahal, some distance away through a small mirror, as his sight was failing. He died in love and finally found himself buried next to his beloved in the same Taj Mahal.
